Islamic Concept of Politics and Organizational Structure of Jamā’at-e-Islāmī, Pakistan

Abstract

Jammat-e-Islami is the famous religious party of Pakistan which was founded before the creation of Pakistan. Since the establishment of Pakistan, the party remained involve in the politics in various shapes. Jammat-e-Islami always conducted the intra party elections which are considered the beauty of democracy. The party has been claiming that everyone can get the membership as a worker weather he or she belongs to any sect of Islam. However, in practice the reality is opposite to it. Jamaat-e-Islami claims that it is the really democratic party in the country; but on the other hand, the party obliges its workers to live their lives according to the principles of the party. The leaders of Jammat-e-Islami promised to bring democracy in line with Islamic principles in Pakistan. On the other hand, they adopted the policies of reconciliation through supporting the martial rules. The common citizens did not like Jamaat-e-Islami as a political party in Pakistan. They liked this party as they had hope from Jammat-e-Islami to reform the society from the social evils for the protection of citizens. The internal conflicts were also visible in the party and sometime these differences were so great that many leaders had to leave the party.
