Abstract

During the early period, the companions of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW), together with their subsequent pupils and followers, undertook the task of committing to memory and subsequently documenting the entirety of the Prophet's teachings. This meticulous process involved extensive consultation among the individuals involved, with the primary objective of preserving these teachings for future generations. During the formative years, esteemed scholars known as Muhaddathin dedicated themselves wholeheartedly to the sacred endeavor of preserving and transmitting knowledge. Among these scholars, Ibn-e-Shahab Az-Zuhri emerged as a highly esteemed figure, earning a prominent position and great respect among the teachers of Hadith. The critical assessment incorporates the opinions of renowned Hadith scholars, acknowledging the variability in opinions regarding his credibility. This article aims to provide a nuanced understanding of Imām Zohrī's status as a Muhaddith, emphasizing the importance of a comprehensive evaluation of his contributions to Hadith scholarship.
