Islam is a complete code of life that encompasses all aspects of human affairs. The Holy Quran not only commands worship and related rulings but also addresses various other matters, including financial transactions. In Islam, economic dealings hold great significance. The Islamic economic system is unparalleled, and in our everyday transactions, loans (debt) hold particular importance. Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 282 of the Holy Quran, provides detailed rulings on transactions and debts. This verse is known as Ayat al-Dayn (the verse of debt). In the first part of this verse, it is stated that when you deal with debt among yourselves, it should be written down. It further states that a time period should be fixed in debt transactions, followed by the conditions for recording the debt. Then, the principles and regulations for witnesses are elaborated.This paper presents an interpretative study of the rulings and issues derived from Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 282, and discusses the resulting impacts and benefits.
