The Prophetic traditions (Ahadith) are a fundamental component of Islam, serving as the primary source of Shariah after the Quran. Ensuring the authenticity, reliability and acceptance or rejection of Ahadith has always been a priority for Islamic scholars. Imam Ibn-e-Taymiyyah, renowned for his profound scholarly insight and ijtihad (independent reasoning), established comprehensive and reliable principles for evaluating Ahadith. Ibn Taymiyyah’s methodological approach was firmly grounded in the Quran and Sunnah, with his opinions consistently rooted in evidence and reason. He emphasized that the authenticity of any Hadith must be thoroughly examined and aligned with the definitive principles of the Quran and Sunnah. According to him, the chain of transmission (isnad), the textual content (matn), and the balance between narration and reasoning (riwayah and dirayah) are all crucial factors in ensuring that the foundation of Islamic teachings remains anchored in credible and sound sources that harmonize with the spirit of Shariah and rationality.
