The global environmental crisis is one of the most pressing challenges of the contemporary world, impacting ecosystems, human livelihoods and sustainable development. This article explores solutions to the environmental crisis through the lens of Maqasid al-Shariah (Objectives of Islamic Law). Rooted in Islamic teachings, Maqasid al-Shariah emphasizes the preservation of five fundamental principles: religion (deen), life (nafs), intellect (aql), progeny (nasl) and wealth (mal). These principles provide a comprehensive framework to address environmental degradation and foster sustainable practices. The article highlights how Islamic teachings align with modern environmental objectives, emphasizing the responsible use of natural resources, protection of biodiversity and mitigation of pollution. Preservation of life encourages proactive measures against climate-related disasters, while safeguarding progeny underscores the duty to ensure a livable planet for future generations. Similarly, the preservation of wealth and intellect promotes sustainable economic policies and innovation to combat environmental challenges. Islamic teachings, such as planting trees, conserving resources and avoiding waste, offer practical guidance for individual and collective action. Additionally, the integration of Islamic principles with global efforts, including international environmental treaties, can provide a robust solution to the crisis. This study concludes that the Maqasid al-Shariah framework is not only relevant but vital in addressing the global environmental crisis, promoting a balanced and sustainable world that aligns with both divine guidance and human responsibility.
