Keywords:

This research examines the matrimonial and familial roles of the Ṣaḥābiyāt (RA) the female companions of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ and their contributions to social welfare and ethical development in early Islamic society. It highlights how these women, through moral upbringing, mediation, and educational participation, built the foundation of an ideal Muslim family that became a model for community welfare. The study analyzes key Orientalist interpretations, including those of John L. Esposito, Karen Armstrong, Ignaz Goldziher, and Barbara Stowasser, comparing them with Islamic primary sources to expose both appreciation and misrepresentation of women’s social positions in Islam. Methodologically, this research follows a qualitative and analytical approach, relying on classical Islamic texts, historical records and Orientalist literature. The findings confirm that the Ṣaḥābiyyāt (RA) were not confined to the domestic sphere but were vital participants in nurturing ethical values and ensuring social harmony through the family institution.
