Abstract

In the context of preservation of Deen and its preaching, the name of Imam Ahmad bin Hanbal (R.A.) comes right at the top with prominence. Right from the beginning and going through the young age till ripe age, from acquiring knowledge to its impartment every aspect of his life, when it is analyzed; seems some story but this stupendous work is only a part of his life not a whole life. As his practical life is so thorough and exemplary that every bit of his life draws the attention of the followers. In this article I have tried to put some light on each aspect of his life but it was difficult to do so, that’s why in particular I remained focused on his scholarly work which was the demand of topic as well as the conciseness. After describing and analyzing this literature his rank among the scholars has been discussed and highlighted through his scholarly work. The thing which makes his rank even more high is that he had not just done compilation of knowledge rather he had stipulated the principles of that knowledge, his “Musnad” recognizes this fact very effectively. Along with his mastery in hadith knowledge he was an expert of “Ilm-e-Jar’h O Tadeel” infect Shah Wali ullah (R.A) consider him one of the masters of this knowledge. Remaining busy in hadith knowledge upto that level he had also devised the principles of “Fiqh” and made tremendous efforts to make them implemented. All these things make his scholarly stature very high and puts him right at the top.
